No New Utility Rate Increase
The cash on hand in our four major utilities has increased significantly year over year. Recently, three of us on Council stopped an increase in water rates, understanding that the water department had over $7 million in their account. At this time, there is more than enough money in their accounts to pay for the approved Capital Improvements and continue to operate. It's important to understand that utlities cannot charge more than the cost of service. Anything more than the cost of service is a tax. A tax must be approved by the voters and not city staff or the elected officials on the dais.
As your next mayor of Lompoc, I will continue to monitor the monthly treasurer reports and ensure fiscal responsibility of the people's hardworking money.
Historical rate increases:
It's important to note that the people have endured significant rate increases over the last 25 years.
